Behind the Scenes at a Belly Dance Gig: A Greek Night to Remember
Performing at a Greek Night is always an amazing experience—full of vibrant energy, delicious aromas and people celebrating. Last weekend, I had the pleasure of bringing the magic of belly dance to a Greek themed night at the The Prospect in Penshaw (in between Durham and Sunderland).
The evening began with a flurry of preparation. I was performing 3 sets so I selected 3 different costumes for throughout the evening - lots of sequins, chiffon, lycra, beads and jingling coin belts. Backstage, I got changed whilst the live band and singer were performing and the starters were served.
Then it was my turn - my entrance music started  and the first set was underway!  As I stepped into the spotlight the audience clapped and cheered, instantly connecting with the dynamic energy of the music and the evening. The staff thew napkins over me as I shimmied and moved through the restaurant performing for each table.
The set was soon over and then it was time to costume change and prepare for the next set. The evening was over in a whirl of music, dance and shimmies!
One of my favourite moments from the evening? The dancing with the guests as I got them up and dancing on the floor! Laughter and joy filled the space as we all celebrated together, embracing the spirit of the night whilst Storm Darragh blew around outside.
Whether it’s a Greek Night, wedding, or special event, belly dance always brings a unique sparkle. If you're planning a celebration, why not add a little shimmy?
